Reel mowers

I'm trying to get in touch with my inner Amishman by establishing a fully human-powered lawn care system. There are basically three nuts to crack:

  1. Cutting the grass
  2. Edging the grass
  3. Trimming the hedge
For each, I figure I need to find the right tools, and I need to landscape our lawn smartly.

Let's start with tools for cutting the grass. We have a dull old Sears reel mower, which works much better now that I've adjusted the blades. But I've got my eye on a Sunlawn MM2. It's the widest of the Brill/Sunlawn mowers, and has the most blades. From what I can tell, Brill is a German company that is re-branded in the US by Sunlawn. Then there are other companies that resell both Brill and Sunlawn. In any case, looks like those are the best reel mowers available in the States. And you can see them in action here. When is Father's Day again?
